Root cellar - (Changing places)

Year: 2008. Technique: Wood, birch bark, wheels, suitcase handle, steal, soil, grass. Size: 70 x 70 x 90 cm.
A work for the Swedish/Mongolian exhibition Uppbrottets hembygd at the open-air museum Murberget in Härnösand 2008.

Root cellar - (Changing places) is a small portable root cellar with wheels. The root cellar was long used as a refrigerator for the common people in Sweden, but today they are often left unused and fall into decay. As storage for root vegetables and fruit it is still superior to the refrigerator and moreover it works without electricity. The work is re-establishing and renewing an old ecologically sustainable technique of storing food and makes it usable for both a traditional nomadic and a modern western travelling way of living.
